Vung Tau – Southern Vietnam's Favourite Beach Resort
Vung Tau is a coastal city in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, located on a peninsula jutting into the South China Sea, 120 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City (2 hours by bus or 75 minutes by high-speed ferry). It is the most popular beach escape for Saigonese, offering a laid-back contrast to the frenetic city. Back Beach (Bai Sau) is a 9-km stretch of sand lined with seafood restaurants, while Front Beach (Bai Truoc) has a scenic promenade. The Christ the King Statue atop Small Mountain is a famous landmark offering panoramic views of the South China Sea. Vung Tau is also Vietnam's principal offshore oil industry hub. Seafood – especially mud crabs, clams and grilled fish – is excellent and affordable.
