My Tho – Gateway to the Mekong Delta

My Tho is the capital of Tien Giang Province and the closest Mekong Delta city to Ho Chi Minh City (70 km, 1.5 hours). It is typically the first stop on any Mekong Delta itinerary, offering classic delta experiences: sampan boat rides through narrow canals, visits to river islands (Dragon, Tortoise, Phoenix, Unicorn), fruit orchards, honey bee farms, snake wine distilleries and coconut candy workshops. My Tho is most commonly paired with neighbouring Ben Tre Province (the Coconut Kingdom) for a full-day Mekong tour from Saigon. The 1929 My Tho Catholic Cathedral and its bustling riverside market are also worth seeing.
