Ca Mau – The Southernmost Tip of Vietnam
Ca Mau Province is the southernmost province in Vietnam, where the land literally ends in the sea – and continues to grow 80–100 metres per year as Mekong silt is deposited. The famous Dat Mui Cape (Ca Mau Cape) is the southernmost point of mainland Vietnam and a symbolic destination for Vietnamese pilgrims who travel here to stand at the "end" of the country. The province is dominated by two vast forest ecosystems: the U Minh Thuong and U Minh Ha melaleuca (cajuput) and mangrove forests, both national parks and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, rich in wildlife including the rare smooth-coated otter. Ca Mau's seafood – mud crab, shrimp and catfish – is prized throughout Vietnam. The city is 350 km from Ho Chi Minh City (7 hours by bus) or accessible by flight (1 hour).
